The <i>Escape Velocity</i> series is a trilogy of three shareware sci-fi games released by [[company:Ambrosia Software]].
The original <i>[[game:Escape Velocity Classic]]</i> came out in 1996. <i>[[game:EV Override]]</i> and <i>[[game:EV Nova]]</i> followed it in 1998 and 2002, respectively.
Most of the gameplay is in a top-down perspective wherein the player flies one of many starships.
All of the games are expandable with plug-ins to one degree or another.
